Lewis Central's girls may not be the flashiest offensive team in the Hawkeye 10, but there is no team that plays the kind of defense these Titans do. Using another crushing defensive performance, Coach Hanafan's Titans have positioned themselves for another Hawkeye 10 title.
After blowing past Creston 67-35 on Monday night, the Titans travelled to Harlan with their hopes for a share of the Hawkeye 10 Title still intact. Once again the Titans started slowly on offense as they scored only 8 points in the first quarter, but still led going into the second frame thanks to their stifling defense.
Things changed quickley for the Titan offense in the second quarter. Natalie Madsen's three pointers midway through the second quarter started a run that ended with the Titans pushing their lead out to a dominating 31-14 advantage. While the Titan offense heated up, the defense continued to dig it's feet in the dirt and hold Harlan to a miserable 8 minute stretch without a point.
The Titans finished the game out with a 46-27 victory to up their record to 18-2 overall and 11-1 in the conference.
The Titans got an amazing performance from Carly DeMarque on the defensive end. With starter Aubrey Norville in foul trouble, DeMarque stepped in and held Harlan's leading scorer Josie Esser in check. On the game Esser scored only 7 points and DeMarque nearly matched her with 6 points.
Delany Higgins knocked down a triplet of three pointers en route to a 10 point performance. She was joined by Liz Sieleman in double digits with 10 points and 6 rebounds.
Congrats to the Titans and good luck against the Cardinals on Friday! Hawkeye 10 Championship is on the line!
