Wrestlers Win District Title, Send 5 to State Tournament

The Lewis Central Wrestling team once again proved to be the best in the area with a district title last Saturday in Glenwood.  The Titans outpointed second place Sioux City North by 12.5 points en route to the district title.

 In all the Titans advances five wrestlers to this weeks State Tournament in Des Moines with Zeb Wahle, ranked No. 2 in the state at 160 pounds, and No. 4 170 lber Ben Schwery dominated all day and both moved on to their third state tournament. Fifth-rated Zach Renshaw (220) and Ethan Ruby (145) will be making their second trip to Wells Fargo as well.  Making his first trip to Iowa sports biggest venue is Austin Lear.  The 195 lb grappler dispatched TJ's Kenny Rhodd 5-3 to win his first district title.


First round match ups for the Titans:


145 lbs - Ethan Ruby will be taking on Brian Warren of Des Moines Hoover..  The Senior is 34-3 on the season and was ranked third in the final 3A rankings. 

160 lbs - 2nd ranked Zeb Wahle will face Casey Becker from Cedar Rapids Prairie.  Becker is unranked and 16-12 on the season

170 lbs - 4th ranked Ben Schwery drew unranked Terry Stover from Waveryl Shell Rock.  He is currently 32-14 on the season.  Schwery is also in the same side of the bracket as #1 Alex Meyer, whom he couldn't wrestler in the dual team districts.  Should be a fun side.

195 lbs - Austin Lear drew 6th ranked Cegan Long who is  42-9 for North Scott this year.

220 lbs - Zach Renshaw, 4th ranked for the Titans, will face Tom Schiffer of Mason City who is unranked and has a record of 25-21.
